Dear thirteen-year-old Me,

YOUR TIME WILL COME.
It may not feel like it now, but I promise, it will.

Right now you feel impatient, maybe irritated, and probably jealous of those around you. You feel like you have so much you want to do, so much  you want to become, but you're stuck. Just hold on! Right now, you're just a seed. You can't see it, but you're growing. Soon, you'll grow into a tree, and you have the rest of your life to be a tree. But you only get to be a seed once. So be the best little seed that you can be.

Don't worry what other people think. Usually, they're only thinking about themselves anyways. Nobody will remember the clothes you wore, but they will always remember the way you treated them. Remember, everyone else is growing too. Cutting them down won't make you any taller, or make you grow any faster.

Mom and Dad are always right. They only want what's best for you and they love you. Be kind to them. Your Heavenly Father is always right too, and He loves you more than you could ever imagine. He will help you. He will hear and answer your prayers. But He's only going to be a part of your life if you allow Him to be. But He's always there with arms wide open.

Everything's going to be okay.
Somebody loves you.
You're going to make it.

Right now it may feel like you're never going to get out of the uncomfortable years between childhood and adulthood, but you will. And what you do in these critical years will determine what kind of tree you will eventually be. So prepare to be the tree you want to be. Grow your roots down deep, reach your branches up high, look to the light, and grow with all your might. Remember who created you, who planted you, and will continue to nourish you, because He will never leave you.

  1. Kaleigh, thank you! She's so beautiful - just like you were at 13! She's so lucky to have you to look up to and to encourage her!
